Use of computer technology increasing for more students

ST. MARYS - Slate and chalk are out and smartphones are in at St. Marys City schools.
The district pioneered the use of the technology in the classroom four years ago and now provides free smartphones to all students in grades 3-5.
Technology coordinator Kyle Menchhofer said 100 schools are modeling their own programs after St. Marys'. The efforts also have been published and officials have worked with colleges to develop programs. [More]

LIMA - It wasn't much of a surprise as to what the main topics of conversation were when Ohio High School Athletic Association commissioner Dr. Dan Ross took part in a town hall meeting on Thursday at the University of Northwestern Ohio.
The on-going debate about competitive balance and the possibility of a referendum on splitting public and non-public schools into separate tournaments took up a large part of the nearly two-hour session. [More]

CELINA - A longtime Democratic member and current chairman of the Mercer County Board of Elections is resigning from the board at the end of the month. He is the third member to leave the political body in less than a year.

CELINA - After scoring a season-high 10 goals on Tuesday in a rout over Western Buckeye League rival Wapakoneta, Celina's girls soccer team was only able to hit the back of the net once on Thursday, but it was enough for the Bulldogs to defeat Grand Lake rival St. Marys 1-0.

Celina's girls tennis team cliched at least a share of their fourth straight Western Buckeye League title on Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over winless Kenton at the Booster Club Tennis Complex.
