Howard Henschen
Howard L. Henschen, 90, New Knoxville, died at 12:55 p.m. April 14, 2013, at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Shelby County, to Ferdinand and Lydia Feldwisch Henschen. He married Glenna Jean Walls on April 22, 1944, and she survives at the St. Marys Living Center.
He is also survived by his two daughters, Sharon (Rick) Tangeman of New Bremen and Susan (Dan) Stemen of Lima; a sister, Melba Henschen of New Knoxville; five grandchildren, Aaron Tangeman, Jennifer Stemen, Heather (Sandeep) Das, Pamela Stemen and Joy Stemen; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Shawver and Connor Das.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Duncan, and a brother, Lester Henshen.
He was a 1940 graduate of New Knoxville High School and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II.
He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys after 42 years of service. He was a member of Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, where he had served as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking and was a big sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds.
He served as mayor of New Knoxville for 10 years.
Funeral rites are 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, the Revs. Dean Greenwood and Tom Sager officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Faith Alliance Church, where memorial gifts may be given to Gideons of Disabled American Veterans.
