St. Henry residents strongly oppose levy

ST. HENRY - Voters on Tuesday crushed a proposed income tax levy by a larger margin than a similar levy that failed in November.

The 0.5 percent levy to fund operating expenses and special projects was struck down by 61 percent of residents with 364 votes against and 234 votes in favor. Last fall's levy attempt was defeated by 55 percent. [More]

ST. MARYS - The requested combined property and income tax levy for St. Marys school district failed in Tuesday's primary 39.7 precent to 60.3 percent.

Of the 3,838 who voted, 2,316 voted against the five year, 5-mill property tax and 1 percent earned income tax. The levy would have brought in $3.25 million per year and prevented a possible future deficit. [More]

ST. MARYS - Longtime council member Jim Harris will say goodbye after losing his at-large council seat to a newcomer.

Five candidates ran for three open at-large seats in Tuesday's primary election, including Harris and fellow incumbent Bob Fitzgerald. Also running were Auglaize County Dog Warden Russ Bailey, former St. Marys Economic Development Director Todd Fleagle and Dan Uhlenhake, a prepress manager at Post Printing in Minster. [More]

ST. HENRY - Board members at a special meeting Tuesday night hired teacher Eric Rosenbeck as the new high school principal and approved his continuation as head basketball coach.

Voters give win to Celina school income tax renewal

CELINA - Voters in Celina school district agreed to continue the five-year, .75 percent income tax levy that brings in about $2.2 million per year.
