Tom Rable Sr.
Thomas J. Rable Sr., 79, Celina, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Dec. 21, 2013, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born July 1, 1934, in St. Marys, to Victor J. and Matilda (Diehl) Rable. On June 2, 1962, he married Marilyn Pleiman, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving are his children, Thomas Jr. (Rosann) Rable, Celina, and Mary (Ted) Loose, Springboro; six grandchildren, Matthew, Miranda, Mariah, Marcus, Sara and Kristi; and a brother, John Rable, St. Marys.
He was a 1952 graduate of St. Marys High School and attended Wright State University-Lake Campus for two years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force after World War II and retired in 1997 from Reynolds & Reynolds, Celina. A central part of his life was the Immaculate Conception parish community, where he shared his time and talents as a lay minister distributing communion at local nursing homes and teaching CCD. He was formerly an active member in the Legion of Mary as well as being a Past Grand Knight and a current 4th Degree Knight of Columbus member with Celina council #1800. He was instrumental in starting the Mercer County Right to Life Chapter and the abortion alternatives center in Celina. He was a member of the American Legion Post #210, Celina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, the Rev. Kenneth G. Alt, C.PP.S., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina, with military honors by the Celina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Celina American Legion.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. today and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, where American Legion Post membership services will be at 7 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus service will be at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the I.C. Endowment Fund or the church for Masses.
