Dennis A. Bertke, 84, Maria Stein, died Dec. 26, 2013, at Briarwood Village, Coldwater.

He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Maria Stein, to Rudolph J. and Lena (Wint) Bertke. On July 9, 1949, he married Ruth Huecker in McCartyville, and she died Sept. 25, 2009.

Surviving are 10 children, Jerry (Janie) Bertke, Coldwater, Ted (Dianna) Bertke, Celina, Jan (Ron) Hertel, Celina, Kenneth (Kathy) Bertke, Versailles, John (Karen) Bertke, Celina, Nick (Lin) Bertke, Troy, Betty (Brian) Rembacki, Coldwater, Kay (Don) Homan, New Bremen, Norman (Tiffany) Bertke, Columbus, and Scott (Annie) Bertke, Columbus; 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Bruns, Coldwater; and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Bertke, Celina.

Deceased are two sons, Dave Bertke and Mike Bertke; three brothers, LeRoy Bertke, Earl Bertke and Ralph (Ellen) Bertke; a sister, Alice (Alvin) Bruggeman; and a brother-in-law, Wilbur Bruns.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, where he was a former member of the choir, the Knights of St. John-Uniform Rank, and the Coldwater Eagles. He was employed at New Idea, Coldwater, for 38 years.

Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, the Rev. Gene Schnipke officiating. Burial is at St. John Cemetery, Maria Stein.

Calling is 1-7 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
