Charles Hein
Charles J. "Charlie" Hein, 86, Fort Recovery and Bradenton, Fla., died April 22, 2014, at Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville.
He was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Avon, to Xavier and Lotus Mae Roberts Hein. On June 14, 1951, in Osgood, he married Mildred Reichert, who died Feb. 15, 2006.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Tim) Armstrong, Richmond, Ind., Mary Beth McLaughlin, Loveland, and Margo (Doug) Johnson, Cincinnati; three sons, Chuck (Angelika) Hein, Fort Recovery, Jon (Rose) Hein, Greenville, and Dan (Amy) Hein, Cincinnati; two sisters, Mildred (Dale) Tangeman, Coldwater, and Shirley Larger, Fort Loramie; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a special friend, Nancy Knapke, Fort Recovery. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends.
Also deceased is a brother, Jerry Hein.
He was a 1945 graduate of Coldwater High School. He served the United States as a member of the 348th Army Band and was owner of Hein Insurance Agency. He served as grand knight of the Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus, an officer in the American Legion, president of the Fort Recovery Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Ambassadors of Fort Recovery, a trustee for Wright State University, and a member of the Mercer County Health Board and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
A man most devoted to his family, he was also an active advocate for numerous civic and cultural endeavors. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, and Mary, Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, Bradenton, Fla. He was a friend to many.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. May 3 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is 8:30-10:15 a.m. May 3 at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Fort Recovery Community Foundation, P.O. Box 52, Fort Recovery, for the purpose of scholarship and community bequests.
Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, is handling the arrangements.
