Raymond Barnes
Pastor Raymond Barnes, 77, St. Marys, died at 12:35 p.m. Dec. 3, 2014, at his residence.
He was born July 29, 1937, in Egan, Tenn., to Robert and Laura Moss Barnes. On Nov. 9, 1959, he married Geraldine Lay, who died Oct. 30, 1999. On Nov. 27, 2001, he married Zona Webb-Roller, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Roger) Bray, Monroe, Mich., two sons, Damon (Sandy) Barnes, Carlton, Mich., and Ronald (Jackie) Barnes, Milan, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Sheila (Michael) Knous, St. Marys, Cynthia (Dan) Wheeler, Tampa, Fla., and Darlene Yancey, Mason; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Damon (Juanita) Barnes, Ida, Mich.; and three sisters, Christine Fraczkowski, Baltimore, Md., Helen Rose, La Follette, Tenn., and Patsy (Albert) Kidwell, La Follette, Tenn.
Also deceased is a grandson, Jonathon Barnes.
In his younger years, he worked in the coal mines near Egan, Tenn. He later retired in 2001 as a production associate for the Ford Motor Company in Monroe, Mich.
He was a minister for the Missionary Baptist Church, having pastored churches near Monroe, Mich., and Toledo throughout the years.
In 2003, he moved to St. Marys, where he became an active member of the St. Marys Missionary Baptist Church.
A natural athlete and fan, he played baseball his entire life. He especially enjoyed playing April through October in the "Old Timers' League," whose members consisted of his school buddies from Egan, Tenn.
He also had many enjoyable adventures while riding 4-wheeler ATVs with members of his family.
The main focus of his life was his service to God and spending time with the family he adored. He will be remembered as a compassionate man who never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe, Mich., Pastor Roy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, La Salle, Mich.
Calling is 5–8 p.m. Monday at the church. Miller Funeral Homes, St. Marys is handling the arrangements.
