Vernon Mescher
Vernon B. "Vernie" Mescher, 75, Fort Recovery, Ohio, and formerly of Osgood, Ohio, died Sunday, April 26, 2015, at his residence.
He was born December 21, 1939, in Maria Stein, OH, to the late Otto Mescher and the late Rosa (Buening) Mescher. He married Mary Lou "Louie" (Reichert) Mescher on August 24, 2006, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, and she survives. He was first married to Sherry (Alexander) Mescher in 1969 and she died in 2003.
Other survivors are two step daughters, Dawn (Fred) Zink of Port Clinton, OH and Jill (Aaron) Vaughn of Fort Recovery, OH; step grandchildren, Taylor, Gunar, Perry, Marshall, Cole, Addy, Nora and Marlie; four sisters, Elsie Balster of Maria Stein, OH, Sr. Verlina Mescher C.PP.S of Dayton, OH, Sally Mills of Versailles, OH and Martha Mescher of Hawaii; four brothers, Dennis (Vi) Mescher of Maria Stein, OH, Jim (Mary Kathryn) Mescher of Fort Loramie, OH, Nick (Sally) Mescher of Urbana, OH and Dave (Lucy) Mescher of Maria Stein, OH; two sisters-in-law, Sally Mescher of Versailles, OH and Mickey Mescher of Tipp City, OH; in-laws, Dave (Mary) Reichert of Bradenton, FL, Margaret Martin of Fort Recovery, OH, Carol (Gene) Hartnagel of Fort Recovery, OH, Joan (Ed) Leightner of Union City, OH, Virginia (Jack) Meinerding of Union City, OH, Tom (Kathy) Reichert of Fort Recovery, OH, Teresa (Jerry) Vest of Otisco, IN, Fred (Diane) Reichert of Fort Recovery, OH, Gary (Bev) Reichert of Upland, IN, Steve (Ruth) Reichert of Fort Recovery, OH, Ann (Jim) Stammen of Fort Recovery, OH, Kim (Dave) Rammel of Fort Recovery, OH and Regina (Dennis) Copley of Louisville, KY.
Preceded in death were step-son-in-law, Tom Hull, brothers, Ralph, Stan and Gilbert Mescher, sister, Lucille Nielsen, brothers-in-law, Werner Balster, Bud Nielsen and Gene Mills.
He was employed as a truck driver for Weaver Brothers and Midmark, both of Versailles, Ohio, the former Alexander Brothers, Osgood, Ohio and Paul Hartings Trucking, Maria Stein, Ohio. He was a 1959 graduate of Marion Local High School, Maria Stein, Ohio.
He was a member of Goat Farmers, Yorkshire, Ohio, Moose Lodge, Celina, Ohio, was a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Recovery, Ohio, and St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, Ohio.
He was an avid area sports fan, was a Nascar fan, and enjoyed attending the Cincinnati Reds baseball games with his brothers.
Funeral Mass is at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, Ohio on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., Fr. David Zink officiating. Burial is at St. Martins Cemetery, Osgood, Ohio.
Calling is 2:00 pm-8:00 pm Wednesday and 9:00 am-9:30 am Thursday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
