John Barbor III
John P. Barbor III, age 95 of Rockford, Ohio and formerly of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Sunday Nov. 13, 2016 at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1921 in Grove City, PA, the son of John Park Barbor, Jr. and Alma (Moon) Barbor. He married Anna Atkinson in March, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2009.
He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Dorothy J. & Thomas McCullough and his sister-in-law Carol Barbor.
John is survived by his brother, Jim Barbor and four nephews; John H. & Claudia Coe of Celina, Ohio, Ken S. & DeEtta Coe of LaPorte, Indiana, Keith Barbor in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania and Thomas McCullough in Frederick, Maryland, four nieces; Penny P. & Phil Meyers of Dayton, Nevada, Sandy McCullough in Bowie, Maryland, Susan McCullough in King George, Virginia and Cynthia Barbor White in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania.
John graduated from Connellsville, PA High School with the Class of 1939, and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL on a four year football scholarship, where he graduated with a B.S. in Dairy Management in 1943. He then served in the U.S. Marines Corps and the U.S. Army During WWII in the Pacific Theater.
Returning home after the war, he married his wife Ann and became involved in the management of several dairy manufacturing companies throughout Indiana and Michigan. He retired in 1984 from County Line Cheese in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
John and his wife loved the outdoors, fishing, nature, gardening, reading, travel and sports, especially football and baseball. He even had a baseball that he reportedly caught off a foul ball hit by Babe Ruth. John loved music and played both the piano and harmonica by ear.
John had a strong Christian faith with influence from his grandfather, John P. Barbor, a Presbyterian minister who had graduated from Princeton University and pastored churches in Pennsylvania.
Funeral services for John P. Barbor III will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 20, 2016 at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, Ohio, with Rev. Matt Reynolds officiating. Military Honors will immediately follow John's funeral services. John will be buried on Monday in the Highland Park Cemetery in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
