William George
William Gordon "Bill" George, age 69, of rural Mendon, passed away on November 20, 2016, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, surrounded by his family.
Born on December 23, 1946 in Lima, Bill was the son of the late Gordon John and Hazel Estella Lampy George. On November 26, 1966, Bill married Mabel Miller, who passed away on April 8, 1969. He then married Lois Miller on January 31, 1970, and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2008.
Surviving are his children: William G. (April Landis) George Jr. of Rockford, Christopher Thomas (Teena) George of Tampa, FL, Eric John (Nikki) George of Rockford, and Heidi Jo (Marshall) Brehm of Rockford, and grandchildren: Logan Alexander George, Ezekiel Thomas George, Alannah Jean George, Duke Lee Brehm, Kallie Jo Brehm, Katie Jo Brehm, Abigail Jane George and Hudson William George.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Roberts.
Bill was a member of the undefeated 1963 Spencerville Football team. They were the Northwest Conference Champs, and the only football team in school history to go undefeated. In 1964, Bill graduated from Spencerville High School, then went on to receive a degree in agribusiness from Clark State College in Springfield.
A lifelong farmer, Bill also worked 40 years doing machine repair for Fruehauf Trailer Corp., Holland Axle Products, and RTH Processing, all in Delphos, retiring from RTH in 2012.
Bill loved farming, which he termed his "golf," spending time with his grandchildren, and watching sports.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 23, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina. Pastor Randy Christian will officiate. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, and 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, at the Celina funeral home.
In memory of Bill, donations may be directed to the Rockford Thrifty 4-H Club or Parkway High School FFA.
