Frederick Boecker
Frederick J. Boecker age 97 of Minster, Ohio died at 12:40 PM on July 7, 2017 at Elmwood Assisted Living, New Bremen, Ohio.
He was born on March 24, 1920 in Minster, Ohio to the late Andrew & Cecilia (Dorsten) Boecker. He married Martha "Marty" Rulmann on September 22, 1945 in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, Ohio. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2001.
He is survived by children: Thomas & Sondra Boecker, Sidney, Ann & Ken Meyer, Minster, 5 grandchildren, Kristina & Brian Lundy, Kimberly & Chad Sollmann, Tara & Matt Montgomery, Natalie & Carlos de la Garza and Andrew Meyer and 9 great grandchildren, Alex Lundy, Brayden Montgomery, Grant Sollmann, Andrew & Audirana Lundy, Brooke Montgomery, Elise Sollmann, Blake Montgomery and Ayden Lundy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, brother Wilfred Boecker and sister-in-law Margaret Boecker.
Fred was a 1938 graduate of Minster High School and 1947 grad of University of Cincinnati. His college education was interrupted from Jan. 1942 to March of 1946 to serve with 31st infantry division in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and was honorably discharged as a Captain of Co. B 124th infantry regiment and was awarded the bronze star while serving in the Philippines.
Fred was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, of St. Augustine Orphan Society, life member and past president of the Minster Civic Association, past president and member of Minster Local Board of Education, past committeeman of Minster Historical Society, past clerk of the Village of Minster, past secretary and member of St. Augustine Cemetery Board. He served on the Village of Minster's Income Tax Appeals Board for 37 years, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE #1391 and a life member of both the American Legion Post 387 and VFW Post 6432 in Minster.
He retired as the manager of Accounting from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in St. Marys after 37 years.
Fred was an avid sports fan, especially the Minster Wildcats, UC Bearcats and the St. Louis Cardinals. He never missed a middle school or High School sporting event in which his grandson, Andrew participated. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, playing cards and all the special events with his family.
The family would like to say a thank you to the staff at both Wilson Home Health Care and Hospice and the Visiting Angels of Minster and a special thank you to Annette Meyer RN of Wilson Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. Burial will follow with full military honors in St. Augustine Cemetery, Minster.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 11, and from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Wednesday, July 12.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wilson Hospice and Minster Area Life Squad.
