James May
James H. May, 87, Saint Marys, Ohio, died 3:30 P.M. Monday, February 26, 2018, at JTDM Hospital, Saint Marys.
He was born November 5, 1930, in Saint Marys, the son of John and Bertha (Wierwille) May. He married Martha A. Moeller on February 9, 1952, in New Bremen, Ohio; she survives at the residence.
He is survived by his children: Gayle (Jim) Nagel of New Bremen; Kyle (Janet) May of Strongsville, Ohio; Lori (Eric) Now of Saint Marys. He is survived by 7 grandchildren and by 14 great-grandchildren. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sunderland, of Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Bertha May; by his siblings: Mildred Schwaberow; Roy May; Victor May; Robert May; Elmer Ray; Wilson May.
Jim was a 1948 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a corporal during the Korean War. Jim was the former Chief of Police for the City of Saint Marys. He later retired as a coremaker from the Saint Marys Foundry Company.
He was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, Saint Marys; American Legion Post 323; Eagles Lodge Aerie 767 and Mercer Lodge 121, Free and Accepted Masons and Ancient and Accepted Order of the Mystic Shrine, Valley of Dayton; for many years he was a local actor, performing with the Wapakoneta Theater Guild.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March, 3, 2018, at Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, Saint Marys, the Reverend Dr. Ed Bray, officiant. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to Saint Paul's United Church of Christ; Shriner's Children Hospital, or Grand Lake Hospice.
