WAPAKONETA - A Phillipsburg man who in April led police on a 22-minute pursuit through western Auglaize and southeastern Mercer County was sentenced on Friday to 54 months in prison.
Christopher W. Thornton, 39, was sentenced in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court on one fourth-degree felony count of theft of a motor vehicle, one third-degree felony count of fleeing and eluding and a first-degree misdemeanor count of child endangering. Thornton pleaded guilty to the charges on June 6. [More]

NEW BREMEN - The Mark Ruschau Summer Classic featured a classic championship battle between a pair of programs led by friends and former volleyball associates Tricia Rosenbeck and Diana Kramer.
Rosenbeck's St. Henry squad defeated Kramer's New Bremen team two games to one in the title tilt. The Redskins won the opener 25-20, lost the second 19-25 and then took the final set 15-9. [More]

CELINA - City council members this week took emergency action to replace a critical police department system that chief Tom Wale said is failing and no longer supported by the manufacturer.
