Patricia Slavik
Patricia E. Slavik, 83, formerly of St. Henry, Ohio, and a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, died 5:55 P.M. Monday, November 26, 2018, at Otterbein Saint Marys.
She was born November 20, 1935, in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of Bernard and Florence (Klotz) Hauer. She married and was preceded in death by her three husbands: John "Jack" Cahill, Walter Post, and James Slavik.
She is survived by her children: Matthew (Mary) Cahill of St. Henry, Ohio; Douglas (Terre) Cahill of Nashville, Tennessee; Margaret "Peggy" (Jack) Berry of Alpharetta, Georgia; by her step-children: Gwen (Ed) Slavik Pietzuch of Oxford, Ohio; Bruce (Darlene) Slavik of Coldwater, Ohio. She is survived by her sister, Lucy Klein of Crestview Hills, Kentucky, and by 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands; by her two sisters: Jane Bertke and Susan Rawlings; by 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild.
Pat graduated from St. Henry High School in Erlanger, Kentucky. She moved to St. Henry, Ohio, two weeks after marrying Jack. In 1969 she learned how to run the kidney machine at home in order to keep her husband Jack alive. The Cahills were early pioneers in home dialysis, with the entire St Henry community pitching in to blaze this trail together.
She was a homemaker and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys. She had served as President of the Otterbein Saint Marys Resident Council and was very active as a volunteer at Otterbein, and for hospice care in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. She was a great cook and will be remembered fondly for her unique ability to combine humor and love better and more naturally than anyone on earth!
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 511 East Spring Street, Saint Marys, Father Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Private family burial rites will be held at St. Henry Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9-10:00 A.M. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to Grand Lake Hospice.
