James Waesch
James A. Waesch age 84, of St. Marys, died on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the Otterbein St. Marys retirement community.
He was born on November 15, 1934 in St. Marys Township, the son of the late Irvin and Alma (Dicke) Waesch. On October 20, 1962, he married Judith Bowers, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughters: Laura (David) Einstein of Sarasota, FL, Julia (Tim) Gottschalk of Covington, KY, Carol (Russell) Mogen of Dripping Springs, TX, and Brenda (Tony) Jones of Canal Winchester, OH. His grandchildren are Ava Einstein, Nick and Gillian Gottschalk, James, Connor, and Carabell Mogen, Emmett and Benjamin Jones. A sister, Mary Maurer, also survives.
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Charles Waesch.
Jim was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys. He was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, and a graduate of the Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in France.
He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he worked as an engineer. He also worked on the family farm along with his brother, Charles. He served for many years as a volunteer firefighter for St. Marys Township Fire Department. He was also a former secretary of the St. Marys Twp. Zoning Board of Appeals.
Jim was an avid fan and supporter of the St. Marys Roughriders and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, as well as many travels with family and friends. He enjoyed boating, skiing, fishing, watching sports, and repairing most anything. His favorite hobby was gardening, where he took pride in sharing his wonderful produce with others. Jim will be remembered as a kind, hard working, and intelligent family man.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen with Pastor Robert Sweeney officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen with full military honors by the American Legion Post 241 of New Bremen.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM, and one hour prior to the services at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home.
