Jane Bertke
Jane Kennedy Bertke, age 76, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. Jane was a Celina resident until 2001, when she and her husband, John, relocated to North Carolina.
Jane was born April 30, 1944 in Evanston, IL to the late John and Elizabeth Kennedy. Jane married John Bertke on October 5, 1977 and he survives in Hendersonville.
Also surviving is their son, Eric Bertke, and a granddaughter, Kennedy Bertke, both of Spring Hill, FL. Also surviving are Jane's sister, Susan (Bob) Guthridge of Merritt Island, FL, and her identical twin sister, Ann Samek, of Mobile, AL, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Mary Evelyn and Barney Sudhoff of Celina, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and a brother-in-law, David Samek.
Jane retired from the Mercer County Board of MR/DD-Cheryl Ann Programs in 2001. Over the years, she had worked as an aide in both the adult workshop and the school age programs.
A very creative person, Jane was the ultimate bargain hunter and enjoyed shopping for antiques and thrift store treasures which she often repurposed, long before upcycling became a trend. She had a flair for decorating and gave her home a personal and unique touch.
Jane also made decorative items which she often donated to charitable causes. She was very generous and inventive in gift-giving and invested much time and thought into finding the perfect item for anyone lucky enough to be on her list.
Jane enjoyed traveling and was a wonderful cook, although she also loved dining out. She was noted for her southern recipes which she prepared for friends and family. She had a tremendous sense of humor and could brighten anyone's day with a laugh. Jane was a dog lover and had many beloved pets over the years. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 30th at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina with Rev. Jon Exman officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Those attending are required to wear masks, practice social distancing as much as possible, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
