Marvin Opperman
Marvin Opperman, age 93, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020, in the Grande Lake Healthcare Center, St. Marys. He had formerly resided in St. Marys, prior to retiring to Lakeland, FL.
Marvin was born on March 18, 1927, in Auglaize County to the late Herman and Anna (Nolte) Opperman. He attended Anna Schools. On March 24, 1951, he married the former Earline Shives who preceded him in death on October 18, 2007, in Lakeland, FL.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Opperman; five brothers, Rev. Vernon Opperman, Edward Opperman, Frederick Opperman, Myron Opperman and Rev. Robert Opperman; and two sisters, Dorothy Jung and his twin, Marjorie Meier.
Marvin is survived by a daughter, Susan (Larry) Wilkins of St. Marys; daughter-in-law, Kendra Opperman of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Gregory (Stacey) Moorman of Coldwater, Ryan (Stephanie) Opperman of New Bremen, Jill (Danni) Schneider of Worthington, and Dr. Amy Bruno of Cadillac, MI; eight great-grandchildren, Angel Moorman of Celina, Casey Moorman of New Castle, DE, Cassandra Moorman of Coldwater, Kayla, Lenna and Olivia Opperman of New Bremen, and Zach and Ashley Schneider of Worthington; two great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Canterbury and Leelyn Lanki of Celina; two brothers-in-law, Thomas (Dianne) Logan of St. Marys and Richard (Donna) Logan of Prescott, AZ; and two sisters-in-law, Wavelene (Myron) Opperman of New Bremen and Jeanne (Rev. Robert) Opperman of Saline, MI.
Marvin retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in St. Marys after 39 years of service. He also worked for Logan Furniture and Zion Lutheran Church of St. Marys and Beatrice Foods of New Bremen.
Marvin was known for mowing yards and helping do yardwork for many elderly people in both St. Marys and Lakeland. He had a great love of growing and tending to flowers in the community, both at the nursing home, with the St. Marys Garden Club and various places in Florida. Marvin was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. One of the reasons he moved to Lakeland was to be near the Cincinnati Reds winter training camp.
Due to health issues in the community, there will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
