Roy Emery
Roy Lee Emery, 84, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Albion, Indiana.
He was born on April 30, 1937, in Portland, Indiana, to the late Clarence and Vera Ethel (Stauffer) Emery.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Jeanette (Gabele) Emery, whom he married on January 27, 1962; his grandson, Jason Ashcraft; and his siblings, Harry Emery, Ruth McMichael, Marvin Towell, and Elvin Towell.
Roy graduated from Portland High School in Jay County. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country honorably until his retirement on June 7, 1976, as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement, Roy returned to Fort Recovery and owned and operated his construction company from 1976 to 1984. While in town, Roy also owned Old Fort Coins. Roy was a member of the American Legion Post 345 and the VFW Post 6515, where he served as Past Commander. In his free time, Roy enjoyed collecting coins and sport cards. He also liked to be outdoors and spent many hours trapping, hunting, and fishing.
Roy is survived by his children, Richard (Janet) Emery of Portland, and Janet (Steve Jagger) Ashcraft of Albion; his grandchildren, Jon Ashcraft, Amanda (Robert) Adair, Kyle (Victoria) Emery, and Jennifer Ashcraft; his great grandchildren, Dylan, Jaylee, Gatlin, Brixton, and Raylee; and his sister, Clara Reitenour.
A graveside service will be held with full military honors at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Fort Recovery.
A celebration of life and reception of friends will take place following the graveside service at the Fort Recovery K of C Hall from 11:30 AM until 2:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be given in memorial of Roy to an organization of the donor's choice.
