Indiana man dies in crash

CELINA - An Indiana man was killed in a traffic accident reported at 12:18 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Hoenie and Oregon roads in Hopewell Township.
Richard D. Medina, 32, of Marion, Indiana, was driving a 1997 Ford Aspire westbound on Oregon Road Monday and Donald J. Bird, 49, Coldwater, was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey southbound on Hoenie Road, according to a news release from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.
An initial investigation reportedly found that Medina failed to yield at the intersection. Both vehicles collided and traveled off the roadway into a field.
Both drivers were transported to Mercer Health Community Hospital, Coldwater, by members of the Celina Emergency Medical Service. Medina was later airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he died later that evening due to injuries he sustained in the crash, according to the release.
The sheriff's office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Also assisting at the scene was the Celina Fire Department.
No condition information was provided for Bird.
The crash remains under investigation.
