Richard Figley
Richard Dean "Dick" Figley, age 89, of Rockford, Ohio passed from this life on April 27, 2022 at Divine of Shane Hill.
He was born in Blackcreek Township on December 29, 1932 to the late LeDoyle "Farmer" and Mabel (Strickler) Figley. He married Janice McGowan on June 28, 1958. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2017.
Dick graduated from Rockford High School in 1950. In June of 1953, he was drafted into the US Army. After basic training, he was sent to Germany on a troopship, where he was a Jeep and staff car driver for the Company Commander. While there, he was fortunate to be able to visit 7 countries. Dick was honorably discharged from the army in 1955. Dick followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and was a lifelong farmer. He also worked at the old Pontious Hardware in Rockford for 20 years. He was a lifelong member of Rockford United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and Administrative Council. He was the Blackcreek Township Clerk for 32 years, a member of the Mercer County Trustees and Clerks, the Ohio Township Association, Van Wert BPOE for 53 years and Celina VFW. Dick loved to play cards, especially poker and pinochle, with his wife Janny and dear friends Tom and Dot Burtch.
Surviving are: one daughter, Beth, of Toledo and one son, Mark (Diane) of Elida, two grandchildren: Sarah (Scott) Burden and Drew (Stephanie) Figley, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by longtime and dear friends: Darrell and Susan Shephard and the Burtch kids.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Ketcham Ripley Funeral Home, 111 W. First Street, Rockford, OH 45882.
Dick's family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the funeral home.
The family requests no flowers. If you so choose, please give to Everheart Hospice, a charity that you love, one that makes this world a better place for fellow humans or animals, or one that honors Dick's life. That was one of his final wishes.
