Thomas Stelzer
Thomas Joseph Stelzer, age 86, of Coldwater, died Thursday August 11, 2022 at Celina Manor.
He was born on July 30, 1936 in Celina to the late August and Lorena (Huelsman) Stelzer. On April 30, 1957 he married Bernice "Pat" (Quinter) Stelzer, who died July 19, 2016.
He is survived by six children: Cheryl & Joe Niekamp of St. Henry, David & Linda Stelzer of Hebron, Kentucky, Dean & Ellen Stelzer of Delaware, Ohio, Doug Stelzer (Norma Cross) of Montezuma, Darin Stelzer of St. Henry, and Sandra & Douglas Schulze of St. Henry, 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren(1 on the way). He is survived by siblings and in-laws; Bonnie Stelzer of Cincinnati, Alice Dirksen of Celina, Kathryn Hedrick of Coldwater, Eileen Stelzer of Coldwater, Kenneth Stelzer of Olathe, Kansas, Ralph & Nikki Stelzer of Celina, and in-laws, Elmer & Shirley Quinter of Onalaska, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson; also, Evelyn & Roger Bechdolt, Arnold Stelzer, Al Dirksen, Thomas Hedrick, Robert Stelzer, Judith Stelzer, and in-laws, Betty & Ferd Peak and Lavirn Quinter.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, Coldwater Jaycees, Coldwater Knights of Columbus, Coldwater Kiwanis (charter member), Coldwater Booster Club, Coldwater Community Picnic, Holy Trinity Holy Name Society, Coldwater School Board, Coldwater Schools Bus Driver, served as a Little League coach for 15 years and a CYO boys basketball coach and referee for 20 years. He retired from Stamco in New Bremen, working in foreign sales. Tom enjoyed gardening, playing cards, spending time with family and following his grandsons and granddaughters' sports, both high school and college, and of course, Tom was an avid Cavalier fan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Monday, August 15, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Friends may call from 1PM to 6PM on Sunday and from 9AM to 10AM Monday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Care or the Mercer County Council on Aging.
