Harold Huelsman
Harold J. Huelsman, age 96 of Coldwater passed away on May 7, 2023, peacefully surrounded by family.
He was born December 21, 1926, in Celina to the late Anthony & Matilda (Rindler) Huelsman. On August 22, 1953, he married Audrey (Schulze) at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2001.
Harold is survived by his children, Donald & Joanne Huelsman of Marlborough, CT, Nancy & Richard Schroyer of Lima, Thomas & Deborah Huelsman of Englewood, Janel Huelsman of Westerville, and John & Michelle Huelsman of Minster. Harold has nine grandchildren: Kevin Huelsman, Michael & Emily Huelsman, Laura & Mike Grigger, Julie & Sam Hemoud, William & Ashlynn Huelsman, Kathryn Huelsman, Sarah & Austin Baumer, Anthony & Annie Huelsman, LeAnn & Alex Eiting, and ten great-grandchildren. For several years Harold enjoyed the company of a very special friend, Nila Watts of Coldwater. He also leaves a brother and his wife, Larry & Judy Huelsman of Phillipsburg, and in-laws Cyril & Dee Schulze of Florida. Preceding him in death was his daughter Mary Beth; siblings Viola & Ralph Mueller, Hubert & Marilyn Huelsman, and in-laws Richard & Agnes Schulze.
Harold graduated in 1945 from Coldwater High School. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII in Germany, attaining the rank of Corporal. As a veteran, he was a lifelong member of the Coldwater American Legion and VFW Post 5135. He spent 42 years with New Idea (Avco Corp) in a variety of office positions, and 20 years as the treasurer for New Idea Credit Union. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and active in the choir and the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Music played a very important part in Harold's life. He enjoyed singing with family and friends and playing guitar with the wedding band "Royal Lancers". Harold was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Mercer County Elks. Harold's face always lit up upon seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was very important to him, and he loved spending time at their activities, and reliving old stories around the kitchen table.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Friday May 12, 2023, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater. Burial with military rights will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Friends may call from 4-8 pm Thursday May 11 and from 9-10am on Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater.
