Elmer Broering
Elmer C. Broering, age 82, of Burkettsville, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born July 30, 1940, in Cranberry Prairie, to the late Lawrence & Stella (Kaiser) Broering. On November 21, 1964, he married his wife Barbara A. (Sommer) Broering. Barb survives in Burkettsville.
Elmer is also survived by children and their spouses: Marvin & Jenny Broering of Burkettsville, Greg & Brenda Broering of Portland, IN, Sandy & Ron Post of St. Henry, Vicki & Steve Knapke of St. Henry, and Cara & Mark Koesters of Bellbrook. Also surviving Elmer are 23 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, as well as siblings and in-laws: Mary & Louis Grieshop, Paul & Karen Broering, Luke & Barb Broering, Janice Broering, Robert & Betty Broering, Jean & Orville Borgert, Wally & Shirley Broering, Denny & Sharon Ontrop, Marilyn Fortkamp, and Linda Sommer.
In addition to his parents, Elmer is preceded in death by a brother, Don Broering, sisters and brother-in-law, Irene & George Speelman, and Esther Ontrop, and in-laws, Vernon Gehret, Nancy Broering, Lee Fortkamp, and Bill Sommer.
Elmer was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Elmer was a lifelong farmer, a seed corn consultant and salesman, and had served as the President of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. He loved vacationing with his wife to their place in Florida. He also enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on Monday, May 22, 2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery in Burkettsville.
Friends may call on Sunday, May 21, from 1:00 PM to 5:00PM or on Monday, from 9:00AM to 10:00 AM at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
