Robert Hall
Robert Foster Hall, 94, of St. Marys, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday September 23, 2023 at Vancrest of St. Marys.
Bob (or, "Pete" as he was fondly called by most of his family) was born October 3, 1928 in Suman, IN (Ripley Co.) to George W. and Gypsie (Compton) Hall. Shortly after, his family moved to Martin, KY where he met the love of his life Mary Jean Frazier.
In 1945, when he was 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he became a crew chief mechanic on the Douglas C-47 Skytrain. He had the honor of meeting Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in Alaska and shook his hand.He left the Air Force in 1948 with an honorable discharge after he had obtained the rank of Sergeant. After time in the service, he returned to Martin, KY where he entered Mayo State Vocational Electric School, graduating in 1950 with an electrician's degree. Following graduation, he married Mary Jean Frazier on January 14, 1950 and moved to St. Marys, OH soon after. Bob was hired-in at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where he was employed as an electrical technician for 41 years. During that time, he won the Goodyear Spirit Award in 1980, was president of St. Marys Electrical Board, was a life member of American Legion Post #323 and served as a deacon for Montezuma Church of Christ.
Bob is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary Jean Hall, of St. Marys. He is also survived by 2 sons: Steve (Marily Smithers) Hall of St. Marys, OH and Dave (Debbie Gets) Hall of Perrysburg, OH; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ada Moran and Elsie Smith, both of St. Marys, OH; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Vernon (June) Hall; brother Garnet (Joy) Hall; sister Edith (Graden) Daniels.
During his sons' school years, Bob was always involved with their sporting events, contributing his time to coaching Little League teams. You could find Mary Jean and Bob manning the concession stands, being supporting members of the St. Marys Baseball Assoc. for years. Bob liked to fish and rented houseboats with family and friends on Norris Lake in Tennessee numerous times. He loved his family and helped out anyone in need. He took special care of his sisters and sisters-in-law and was extremely proud of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, his life was devoted to his soulmate, Mary Jean, to whom he was lovingly married for 73 years.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday September 28, 2023 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Burial, with graveside military honors, will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family of Robert "Pete" Hall would like to express their gratitude to Vancrest of St. Marys and all of the wonderful nurses and aides who gave such special attention to their Dad. You all were a blessing beyond belief! Also, special thanks to Everheart Hospice for the incredible care provided not only to Dad, but also to Mom.
