By Leslie Klosterman
CELINA - The head of curriculum for Victorum Learning Center faces no jail time after pleading guilty on Tuesday to an amended misdemeanor charge of attempted obstruction of official business in Celina Municipal Court.
Loren Nelson, 43, of Dayton was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspended on condition he have no like or similar convictions for two years and have no contact with victims. He was also fined $250 and court costs.
Nelson was charged in August in connection to alleged abuse at Victorum Learning Center. He was originally charged with obstructing official business, also a misdemeanor.
An Aug. 17 indictment alleges that Nelson purposely prevented, obstructed or delayed the performance by a public official from around July 24-Aug. 10. This "hampered or impeded a public official in the performance of the public official's lawful duties," the indictment reads.
Also charged in connection with abuse at Victorum Learning Center was Stephanie Lawrence, 42, St. Marys. Lawrence has been charged with first degree misdemeanor assault and first degree misdemeanor endangering children, according to an Aug. 17 indictment.
A pre-trial hearing for Lawrence is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21 in Celina Municipal Court.
