Stanly Quellhorst
Stanly W. Quellhorst, age 86, of New Bremen, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 10:43 A.M. at the Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. He had resided at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen for several years.
He was born on August 7, 1937 near New Bremen, the son of the late Willis F. and Leta C. (Bertke) Quellhorst. On February 1, 1964, he married Rosann L. Stueve at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, and she died on November 12, 2013.
Surviving are his children: Susan (Robb Metzcar) Rindler of Celina, Theresa (Chris Hendrickson) Quellhorst of San Clemente, California, and Steven (Marianne) Quellhorst of Cincinnati; his seven grandchildren: Brady (Kelvin) Bruns, Holly (Grant) Muhlenkamp, Nathan Rindler, Jack Quellhorst, Audrey, Anna and Greta Quellhorst; his two step-grandchildren: Avery and Ella Metzcar, his three great-grandchildren: Edison, Marlowe and Caden Bruns. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Lowell Quellhorst and Joyce (John) Gilberg of New Bremen, and his in-laws: Mary Stueve, JoAnn Stueve, and Mary Ellen (Richard) Fortman all of Minster, and Marjorie (Tom) Schwieterman of Burkettsville.
Along with his parents and wife, Stan was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Goodwin, and his in-laws: Betty Quellhorst, Robert Stueve, and Bernard Stueve.
Stan was a life-long member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in N ew Bremen. He was a 1955 graduate of New Bremen High School and after graduation, he joined the United States Army where he served from 1955-1957. He was deeply rooted in the life in New Bremen as he served on the New Bremen/German Twp. Fire Dept. for many years, served two terms as a village councilman, and was a member of the New Bremen American Legion. He had worked briefly for Crown Equipment Corp. after high school before going on to work as a machinist at the former STAMCO and later for Thieman Stamping where he was a foreman and special tool maker. Stan enjoyed playing golf and bowling, photography and playing softball for the Hotel Bar team in his younger days. He and Rosie enjoyed their trips to Hawaii and spending time with their family and wide circle of friends. Above all else, Stan will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor and his ability to fix absolutely anything. Stan lived a long, full life and in his last days was ready to join his wife Rosie, who he missed terribly, and his best friend Robert Wilson in heaven.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen with Rev. Ken Locke officiating. Inurnment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, November, 21, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again on Wednesday, at the church, from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions in memory of Stan can be directed to the New Bremen Fire Foundation or the Elmwood Assisted Living Activity Fund.
