ST. MARYS - The St. Marys Fire Department (SMFD) plans to hire one new employee annually over the next few years to maintain sufficient personnel levels, city councilors learned on Monday night.
The city safety committee met on Oct. 7 to address concerns and goals for recruiting and retaining staff within the fire department, all of which were shared during Monday night's regular council meeting. [More]

The St. Marys boys golf team and Coldwater senior Tyler Overman wrapped up their season on the final day of the Division II state tournament on Monday at the North Course of Firestone Country Club in Akron.
The Roughriders, playing the state tournament for the first time since 2006, finished 12th overall with a two-day score of 710. After shooting a 353 during Sunday's first round, St. Marys fired a 357 on Monday. [More]

Council responds by tabling legislation
CELINA - City councilors on Monday night tabled legislation to rezone a 1-acre property from manufacturing to community shopping, which would clear the way for Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health to build an urgent care center.
MARIA STEIN - School board members awarded a $994,600 contract Monday night to Shinn Brothers Inc. of Celina to install a water line from the Chickasaw water treatment plant to the school property.
ST. HENRY-School board members accepted the resignation of district treasurer and chief financial officer Jennifer Bruns at Monday night's regular meeting.
COLDWATER -Village councilors at Monday's meeting unanimously passed final reading of an ordinance imposing new restrictions on peddlers.
Under the new rules, the validity of a solicitor ID card is drastically reduced from one year to 30 days.
NEW BREMEN - In a quick meeting, village councilors heard several readings of legislation authorizing street work totaling more than $1 million.
