Rockford library levy on fall election ballot

By Erin Gardner
ROCKFORD - Voters in Rockford, Dublin Township, Hopewell Township, Liberty Township and Blackcreek Township will decide the fate of a five-year, 1-mill renewal levy for the Rockford Carnegie Public Library on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
The levy would generate $79,000 annually and cost the owner of a $100,000 home $15 a year, according to ballot language.
"The renewal levy provides also one-third of the funding for our local library, which means it's essential to the operation of the library," according to information provided at Tuesday's Rockford Village Council meeting.
The funds from the levy help support children's and adults' programs.
Last year, the library hosted 131 programs and patrons checked out 26,426 items.
