Tyrone Shaner
Tyrone C. Shaner, age 80, of Celina, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on February 22, 1944, in Celina to the late Clay and Vera (Lusk) Shaner. On May 25, 1991, he married Carol M. (Elsehowe) Shaner, who preceded him in death on October 16, 2023.
Tyrone is survived by his brother-in-law, Phil Cramer of Ottawa; his stepchildren, Gerald (Jen) Rutledge of York, Pennsylvania, John Rutledge of Fort Shawnee, Ohio, and Darren Rutledge of The Villages, Florida; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Cramer, who passed away on January 1, 2019.
A 1963 graduate of Celina High School, Tyrone led a full and varied life. He worked for Matt Schwieterman Construction in Coldwater, the City of St. Marys, and spent 14 years as a self-employed contractor specializing in ditch and pond construction. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Tyrone also served as a reserve deputy with the Mercer County Sheriff's Department for 13 years.
He was an active member of the Studebaker Club, the NRA, the USO, and the DAV. Tyrone found comfort and community at the First Church of the Nazarene in Lima and Zion Methodist Church in Celina.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Tim Benjamin officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina, where military honors will be rendered by the Celina American Legion Post #210 and the Celina VFW Post #5713.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
