Alvin Berning
Alvin H. Berning, 75, of rural New Knoxville, OH, died 11:03 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Hospice of Miami Co., Troy, OH.
He was born Feb. 16, 1949, in Sidney, OH, the son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Bruns) Berning. On July 19, 1975, he married Diane P. Bergman, and she survives.
Other survivors include 4 children, Heather (John) Homan, New Bremen, OH, Amber (Mark) Beckman, Anna, OH, Chad (Tara) Berning, Botkins, OH, and Brian (Ashley) Berning, Botkins, OH; grandchildren, Candace, Caden, Cierra and Carter Homan, Mae, Grant, Ruby, and Will Beckman, Bryce and Trent Berning, Madilyn, June, Ruth, and Henry Berning; siblings, Earl Berning, Sidney, OH, Carol Klinefelter, Ajo, AZ, Theresa (Gordon) Newland, Wapakoneta, Lester (Karen) Berning, Sidney, OH, Brenda (Mike) Niekamp, Montezuma, OH, Dennis Berning, Botkins, OH, June (Pat) Geis, Botkins, OH; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Erma (Walt) Schmitmeyer, New Bremen, OH, Rich (Connie) Bergman, Minster, OH, Ernie Bergman, Egypt, OH, Nancy Berning, Sidney, OH.
In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by a grandson, Oliver Berning, brothers, Sam, and infant Vernon, father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Herman and Lauretta Bergman, brothers-in-law, Ronald Now, and Ivan (Mary Ellen) Bergman.
Alvin was a lifelong farmer. He also had worked at New Idea, Coldwater, General Dynamics, Lima, and retired from Veyance, Goodyear, St. Marys. He was a graduate of Botkins High School, and served in the U.S. Army, from 1969-1972. Alvin was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins. His other memberships include the Buckeye Allis Club, Buckeye Farm Antiques, American Legion, Post 444, New Knoxville, OH, and the Wapakoneta Eagles #691. Alvin loved farming, working on antique Allis Chalmer tractors, and attending farm shows.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins. Burial of his cremated remains will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, and 9-10 a.m., Thursday, at the Eley Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
