Martha Bensman
Martha Jean (Romie) Bensman, age 92, formerly of Oakwood Drive, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Saturday evening, December 28, 2024, at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen, Ohio, where she had been a resident for nearly one year.
She was born July 9, 1932, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Albert & Alice (Heckman) Romie. On June 6, 1953, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Martha married Wilfred "Bill" Bensman who preceded her in death on March 14, 2004.
Surviving are two children: Sharon & Keith Reeder of Fort Loramie and Gregory Bensman of Findlay; two grandchildren: Janessa & Ryan Simon and Jarrett & Beth Reeder along with five great-grandchildren: Reed, Rogan and Jordy Simon and Elliott and Emmett Reeder; one sister, Karen Kerchner & Steve Schell of Dayton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant children, Brenda and Randy Bensman; one sister: Ruth Marie Romie as well as several brothers & sisters-in-law: John Gurski, Bill Kerchner, Rita & Ralph Bornhorst, Mary & Jim Hartard, Urban & Katie Bensman, Theresa & Roger Bornhorst and Joan & Paul Willenberg as well as her father & mother-in-law, Julius & Cecilia (Hoying) Bensman.
Martha was a 1950 graduate of Fort Loramie High School and a life-long member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She loved her family and had been a dedicated homemaker. Years ago, she had been employed at the Fort Loramie Furniture Store and in the office of Copeland Corp. of Sidney. Martha enjoyed following her grandchildren's sporting events and activities as well as playing cards with the neighborhood card club.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. John W. Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad or Grand Lake Hospice.
