Morris Now
Morris A. Now, aged 98, a longtime resident of Celina, Ohio passed away peacefully at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio on Friday, January 31, 2025. He was born on April 6, 1926, to Orris and Lydia (West) Now in Liberty Township, Mercer County, Ohio.
On August 14, 1950, Morris married Doris George and they had 6 children: Pamela (James) Bricher and Candace Brelsford, both of Valparaiso, Indiana, Glenda (Tony) Buschur of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, Debra (Curt) Shively of Westerville, Ohio, Sandra Now of Celina, Ohio, and Michael Now of Dayton, Ohio. He had 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, his brother Vaugn Now, a son-in-law, William Brelsford, an infant sister, and a granddaughter.
Morris served his country with the US Army in the European Theater of Operations during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was always very proud of his service.
Morris graduated from Findlay College in 1950. He was ordained into the gospel ministry and served as pastor of the Buchanan Circuit of the Churches of God for three years. He then became Director of Admissions at his alma mater, Findlay College.
Morris earned an advanced degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School in 1955. He enjoyed a long career in social services. For over 15 years Morris was a Y.M.C.A. Executive Secretary in the Columbus, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania areas. In 1969 Morris returned "home" to Celina to become director of the Department of Human Services of Mercer County from which he retired in 1988.
Throughout his entire life Morris retained his ministerial license with the Churches of God, and he often served as guest preacher, and in some cases as interim pastor, at various churches.
In retirement Morris, along with his wife, enjoyed playing golf, traveling, researching his family genealogy, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.
He was a member of Grand Lake United Methodist Church in Celina.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Grand Lake United Methodist Church, 119 Fulton Street, Celina, Ohio with Rev. Mick Whistler officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, where Military honors will be rendered by Celina American Legion Post #210 and Celina VFW Post #5713.
