Larry Harter
Larry Gene "G." Harter, age 82, of Avon Park, Florida (formerly of Versailles, Ohio) passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025 of natural causes. Born on September 2, 1942, in Greenville, Ohio, Larry was the son of the late Cora Mae (Bowers) and Harley Harter. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his time with family.
On March 9, 1963, he married the love of his life, Sharon S. (Kelch) Harter, with whom he built a beautiful life full of love, adventure, and family.
Larry was a beloved father to Suttan & Ron Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Ohio; Traci & Scott Kruchan of Lyndhurst, Ohio; and Tia & Todd Kellner of Bexley, Ohio. He was a proud grandfather to Jordan & Chelsey Barhorst, Jae Barhorst, Tessa Kruchan & Jacob Liston, and Colin Kruchan, as well as a great-grandfather to Sawyer Jade Barhorst and Leo Gene Barhorst. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald & Sherry Harter of Troy, Ohio, and in-laws, Steven & Connie Kelch of Tucson, Arizona.
Larry was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on the church council and building committees. He was also actively involved in the Versailles Poultry Days Committee for 15 years, including serving as a past president. One of his proudest achievements was being a founding member of the Versailles Heritage Park.
A 1960 graduate of Greenville High School, Larry had a successful career in insurance. He owned and operated Larry G. Harter & Associates Insurance Agency until his retirement in 2012. Prior to that, he spent many years working with Lutheran Brotherhood Financial Services.
Beyond his professional and civic commitments, Larry found joy in simple pleasures. He loved traveling to Disney World with his family and visiting National Parks with Sharon. His favorite pastimes included boating and fishing, and always enjoyed the peaceful moments spent near the lake. His family will remember fondly his love of ball caps, checkered shirts, and Bass Pro Shop gift cards. Larry's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed, but his legacy of generosity and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A private service will be held on February 22nd at 1:00pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Star, Ohio. Larry will be interred at Brock Cemetery in Greenville, Ohio.
