Darwin Zeigler
Darwin D. Zeigler, 82, of Saint Marys, died 9:35 A.M. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Otterbein Retirement Community in Saint Marys.
He was born October 1, 1942, in Cloverdale, Ohio, the son of Duane and Virginia (Wolf) Zeigler. He married Beverly Meeks on August 25, 1965, in Continental, Ohio, and she survives in Saint Marys.
He is also survived by his children: Denise (Nathan) Baldwin of Liberty Twp., Ohio; Brent (Michael Dekrmnjian) of Boston, Massachusetts. He is survived by his grandchildren: Truett Baldwin and Brock Baldwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Karen McCague. She died on February 24, 2025.
Darwin was a 1960 graduate of Continental High School. He graduated from Defiance College and earned his MS from Ohio State University. He had a long career in public education, having taught at Spencerville, Delphos and Saint Marys City Schools. He served as Principal of West Elementary School in Saint Marys and retired as the Business Manager of the school system.
In retirement he was the director of the Saint Marys Community Foundation. He and Bev were very active in the Friends of the Library, where Darwin served on the Board. He was a member of Wayne Street Church and was instrumental in the construction of the new church building. He enjoyed golfing in his spare time.
A celebration of Darwin's life will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Wayne Street Church in Saint Marys, the Reverend Tim Benjamin, officiant.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be made to the Darwin and Beverly Zeigler Family Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students who have graduated from Memorial High School. It is intended for graduates pursuing degrees in education (with an emphasis in elementary education), music education, foreign language or architecture. Donations can be made at www.thesmcf.org
Miller Funeral Home in Saint Marys is entrusted with Darwin's funeral arrangements.
