Joan Ann Poeppelman
Joan Ann (Dirksen) Poeppelman, age 90, of St. Rt. 705, Yorkshire, passed away of natural causes Monday evening, September 1, 2025, at the Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, Ohio.
She was born February 20, 1935, in Cassella, Ohio, to the late Clarence & Philomina (Homan) Dirksen. On September 26, 1957, at Nativity of the B.V.M. Catholic Church in Cassella,
Joan married John N. Poeppelman who preceded her in death on February 25, 2009.
Surviving are two sons, Steven & Agnes (Brown) Poeppelman of Minster and Joseph & Dorothy (Schulze) Poeppelman of Yorkshire; nine grandchildren: Laura & Keith Steineman, Sara & Keith Kremer, Amy & Rob Woehrmyer, Matt & Keri Poeppelman, Adam Poeppelman, Krista & Jacob Hartings, Ryan & Danielle Poeppelman, Eric Poeppelman & fiancée Andrea Goettemoeller and Craig Poeppelman; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Ruth & Marvin Evers of Coldwater; Sisters & brothers-in-law: Sally Dirksen of Portland, IN, Judy Dirksen of Cassella, Alfred Borchers of Dayton and Thomas & Mary Ann Poeppelman of New Bremen along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Poeppelman was preceded in death by three children: Debra, Nicholas and John "JJ" Poeppelman; seven siblings: Alma & Ernest Schmitmeyer, Rita & Edward Evers, Herbert & Mary Dirksen, Esther & Orville Winner, Helen & George Wenning, Louis Dirksen, and Dennis Dirksen as well as brothers & sisters-in-law: Lawrence & Sadie Poeppelman, Alphonse Poeppelman, Martin & Judy Poeppelman, Adele & Alfred Hoying, Sally Borchers, Mildred Borchers, Paul & Elsie Poeppelman and Delores Poeppelman.
Joan was a 1953 graduate of Marion Local high School. She initially worked at New Idea in Coldwater before becoming a life-long dedicated homemaker and (dairy) farm wife. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and St. Ann's Ladies Sodality. Joan enjoyed playing cards and for many years had been the family care giver.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. Nicholas Church in Osgood with Rev. Andrew Reckers and Deacon Marty Brown presiding. Interment will follow at St. Martin Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Thursday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to Osgood Area Rescue or the Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics.
