David Ballweg
David G. Ballweg, age 68, of New Knoxville, died on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:12 A.M. at the Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born on September 25, 1957 at home in rural Botkins, the son of the late Robert J. Ballweg and Esther C. (Wenning) Ballweg who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are his wife Cindy K. (Harris) Ballweg of New Knoxville, and his sons: Greg Ballweg of Botkins, Quincy (Tiffany) Ballweg of Botkins, and Brandon (Katie) Ballweg of Michigan; and his step-children: Eric Cotterman of Sidney, Daria (Bruce) Hannahs of St. Marys.
Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Skyler, Myra, Kailyn, Bentley, and Andrea; his step-grandchildren: Brendin, Bentlee, Hunter, TJ, Layla, Lane, Makayla (Will); a step great-grandson Weston; and his siblings: Debra Ballweg of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Douglas Ballweg of Botkins.
Dave was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, and he also participated in Bible study at the First Church of New Knoxville, deepening his faith and building meaningful connections with others.
He was a 1976 graduate of New Knoxville High School and furthered his education at Northwest Business College's Auto/Diesel program, graduating in 1978. After college, Dave had worked for the former Advanced Auto and Bubeck Chevrolet in New Bremen before moving to Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen where he worked in assembly for 32 years before retiring due to health issues.
Dave was a car enthusiast whose workshop was his sanctuary. He spent countless hours tinkering in his garage, where he built his custom 1927 Ford Roadster and nurtured his love for his red Chevy Camaros. He was a member of the Good Guys Car Club in Columbus, and he enjoyed nothing more than traveling to drag races, car shows, and cruise-ins with friends and family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Fr. Mark Hoying presiding. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Botkins.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the church.
