The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Stumps are seen on a hillside in the Black Hills National Forest, on July 14, 2021, near Custer City, S.D. Government scientists say logging needs to be cut back by at least half in the forest, but timber company representatives say that conclusion is flawed and would hurt the region's economy.
