The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Ammunition boxes lay outside a destroyed school on the outskirts of a recently liberated village outskirts of Kherson, in southern Ukraine, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022. Ukraine liberated Kherson more than one week ago, and the city's streets are revived for the first time in many months. People no longer sit in their homes in fear of meeting the Russians. Instead, they gather in the city's squares to recharge their phones, collect water and catch a connection to talk to their relatives. (AP Photo/Bernat Armangue, file)
