The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

A Fallas figure shows President of Spain Pedro Sanchez, caricatured as Cinderella, during the Fallas Festival in Valencia, Spain, Thursday, March 16, 2023. Fallas are gigantic cardboard structures that satirically depict current events and personalities. More than 800 fallas compete for the prize for the most beautiful, funniest and most satirical. They will be burned on March 19, in honor of the patron saint of the Valencian Community, San José. (AP Photo/Alberto Saiz)
