The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

In this photo provided by Free Burma Rangers, villagers in the southern part of Myanmar's eastern state of Kayah flee attacks by the military government's forces on Friday, June 23, 2023. The military government uses air and ground attacks to try to crush the armed resistance that arose after the military seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. Fighting has been fierce in southern Kayah, where members of an army-established ethnic Karenni militia recently defected en masse to the resistance side. (Free Burma Rangers via AP)
