The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Children in traditiona Mongolian costumes wait for Pope Francis outside the Apostolic Prefecture in Ulaanbaatar's Kahn Uul district, Friday, Sept. 1, 2023. Pope Francis is traveling to Mongolia to encourage one of the world's smallest and newest Catholic communities. It's the first time a pope has visited the Asian country and comes at a time when the Vatican's relations with Mongolia's two powerful neighbors, Russia and China, are once again strained.
