The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

This July 2023 photo provided by State Historical Society of Wisconsin shows the schooner Trinidad. Shipwreck hunters have discovered the intact remains of the schooner that sank in Lake Michigan in 1881 and is so well-preserved it still contains the crew's long-ago possessions in its final resting spot miles from Wisconsin's coastline. The 156-year-old Trinidad was found in July 2023 in about 270 feet of water off Algoma, Wis., by maritime historians Brendon Baillod and Robert Jaeck using side-scan sonar.
