The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

In this photo provided by the Florida Keys News Bureau, kids slide down a 30-ton "mountain" of purposely produced snow during Islamorada Holiday Fest, Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, in Islamorada, Fla. Unless they travel outside the Florida Keys to northern climes, children in the subtropical island chain never get the opportunity to play in snow and ice. Friday afternoon temperatures in the Florida Keys were in the upper 70s, according to the Key West National Weather Service office. Organized by the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce, Holiday Fest was one of several weekend activities that kicked off the 2023 holiday season in the Keys. (Andy Newman/Florida Keys News Bureau via AP)
