The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

People look at the Covid Memorial Wall in London, Wednesday Dec, 6, 2023. Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has acknowledged that his government was too slow to grasp the scale of the COVID-19 crisis. But he defended his handling of the pandemic and skirted questions about whether any of his decisions had contributed to the country's high coronavirus death toll. Johnson was grilled Wednesday under oath by lawyers at a public inquiry into Britain's handling of the pandemic. (AP Photo/Kin Cheung)
