The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Makeshift tents of Hindu devotees are seen set up at the confluence of the rivers Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati, on the eve of "Mauni Amavasya" or new moon day, considered an auspicious bathing day during the annual month-long Hindu religious fair "Magh Mela" in Prayagraj, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
