Douglas Burris
Douglas "Duke" Burris, 82, 1706 Winston Drive, St. Marys, died at 5:26 a.m. Dec. 24, 2006, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 27, 1924, in St. Marys, to Joseph and Blanche Gerard Burris. On May 15, 1969, he married Eileen Naylor, who survives.
Also surviving are son, Ned (Donna), West Chester; two daughters, Nancy Anderson, Granville, and Jeanne (Gary) Hesenkamp, Delphos, and two grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Charles, George and Joe; and three sisters, Ruth Buddemeyer, Betty Riley and Etta Mae Dicke.
He retired after 43 years of service at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, St. Marys. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a first sergeant during World War II. He was a 1942 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.
He was a member of St. Peter Church, New Bremen, and past president of the church consistory. He also was a member of American Legion Post 323, St. Marys; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, St. Marys; Mercer-Auglaize Shrine Club and its 32 Club Local; Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 377, Mercer County; and Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite and Shrine Club of Dayton.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Stephen Willis officiating. Burial with full military honors will be conducted by the Legion and VFW at Resthaven Cemetery, rural St. Marys.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
