Lawrence Baumer
Lawrence G. "Louie" Baumer, 84, of Anna, died at 6 p.m. Jan. 1, 2007, at Fair Haven County Home, Sidney. He was in the home eight months.
He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in McCartyville, to Henry and Mary Enneking Baumer. On April 14, 1951, he married Wilma B. Schmitmeyer, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, David (Peg) and Gary (Lynn), all of McCartyville, Mike (Marilyn), Bellbrook, and Patrick (Sharon), Minster; a daughter, Cindy (Ron) Vondenhuevel, Minster; a brother, Andrew (Maxine), Newport; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a great-grandchild.
He retired as a farmer and a carpenter at Baumer Construction. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in Japan. He was a 1940 graduate of Minster High School.
He was a past cemetery board member, parish Councilman, Eucharistic minister and grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, McCartyville. He was the first 4-H advisor of McCartyville Livestock. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, McCartyville; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Minster; Shelby County Farm Bureau and board; 4-H Advisory Board; Lake Loramie Improvement Association and Shelby County Pork Producers. He was an honorary Anna FFA member.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Revs. Patrick Welsh and Daniel Schmitmeyer officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery with full military honors by the Minster Firing Squad.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
