Mary Evelyn Hertenstein, 97, Rockford, died at 2:35 p.m. Jan. 12, 2009, at Laurels of Shane Hill Nursing Home, Rockford.

She was born Aug. 8, 1911, in Rockford to Carey and Zula Shlater Fleming. On Jan. 19, 1952, she married Clarence Edward Hertenstein, who died May 31, 1977.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Francis and Russell Fleming; a sister, Opal Brown; and a niece.

She was a housewife.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Mark Rutledge officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Calling is 12-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
