William Sexton
William A. Sexton, 91, 1305 Meadowview Drive, Celina, died at 8:25 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2009, at Celina Manor.
He was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Oneida, Tenn. to Arthur and Myrta (Pennington) Sexton. On June 5, 1949, he married Helen Glendening, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons, William (Kathleen), and John (Kristy), all of The Woodlands, Texas, Charles (Robin), Irvine, Calif., and James (Laurain), Walnut Hills, Calif.; four daughters, Anne (Thomas) Namey, Knoxville, Tenn., Frances (Rolf) Ozamiz, Winston Salem, N.C., Patricia (Joseph) Goodman, Wilmington, N.C., and Cynthia (Ronald) Swaney, Celina; a son-in-law, Robert Schelich, Celina; 27 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Jane Schelich, and a sister, Sarah Cook.
He retired from Reynolds and Reynolds Company, where he had been employed for 35 years, as the director of industrial relations. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina. He was a 1948 graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in business administration and an alumni of Chillicothe High School.
He was a member of Toastmaster Club, Celina Chamber of Commerce, Celina Sertoma Club, Mercer County Mental Health Association, Personnel, Association of Miami Valley, Personnel Association of Northwest Ohio and Celina Civil Service. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge 241, Mercer County Sportsman Association, Celina American Legion Post 210, National Rifle Association and Celina VFW Post 5713.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Jeff Conrad officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina. Military honors will be given by the Celina American Legion and Celina VFW.
Calling is 3-7 p.m. Thursday, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. and a military service at 7 p.m., and at 12-1 p.m. Friday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
