John Alig
John H. Alig, 79, Portland, Ind., died at 3:20 p.m. July 9, 2010, at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital in Winchester, Ind.
He was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Portland, Ind., to John and Hilda Droesch Alig. On April 24, 1954, he married Marceil M. Muhlenkamp, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Rita Romer, Fort Recovery, Kathy (Russell) Clark and Susan (Michael) Smith, all of Portland, Ind.; two sons, Paul (Margie) Alig, and Michael Alig, all of Portland, Ind. three brothers, Jerome (Evelyn) Alig and Don (Vera) Alig, all of Portland, Ind., and Richard (Jenny) Alig, Coldwater; three sisters, Dorothy Hein, Montezuma, Bernice Buehler and Rosemary Heitkamp, both of Coldwater; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and six step great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Eileen Bickel; a son-in-law, Jeff Bickel; an infant sister, Viola Alig, and two brothers, Joe and Ralph Alig.
He worked at the former Avco New Idea in Coldwater. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a past commander and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6515, the American Legion Post 345, and the Fort Recovery Gun Club, all of Fort Recovery. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by the Fort Recovery American Legion Post 345 is at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Recovery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery.
